3 Years of The Rescue
From the Desk of Lucy Gould
Reflection
I published The Rescue on November 14, 2022 when I was sixteen years old. Now I am almost twenty years old, a college student, and still the same height. I have since published a poetry collection (Things Unsaid) and I am working on a new publication that for now will remain a secret.
I feel like so much has changed. I’m a different person, a different writer, and even a different reader. This book was written when I was fifteen/sixteen and looking back I want to cringe at how “juvenile” it is but then I remember that I wrote a whole book at less than half the “average” age. That is amazing regardless of how “poorly written” it might have been.
The truth is, I think I’m a much better writer than I was three years ago and I really hope that’s true. Imagine peaking when you’re sixteen, I’d be embarrassed.
The Sequel
With this third anniversary of the release, I’m actually looking forward to diving back into writing The Rescue’s sequel. It’s going to be a complete rewrite of the draft I currently have but I think I can do it. I’m excited to use what I know now about writing to make this book even better than the first one.
I think it’s so important to go into writing with the mindset of “you can always get better”. What I publish at twenty isn’t going to be as good as what I publish at twenty-two and so on. As I grow up, I’m going to improve (at least that’s the plan) and I can always come back to this series and rewrite it for a special edition.
So yes, I can confirm that I will be working on The Rescue’s sequel more diligently while editing Project Blood. I can’t confirm when I will be releasing it but it’ll definitely be in my twenties. I’d like to write the second and third books at the same time so I can do closer release since there will definitely be another cliffhanger at the end of book two.
Thank You
Thank you to everyone who has supported me. It would take years to name everyone and I know none of us have that kind of time so I hope you can settle for a blanket thank you. There is a special place in my heart for all the people who have supported my dreams as a writer and author, I won’t ever forget what your love and support has meant to me. 🫶
